Kesällä olen pitänyt nuorille koululaisille esityksen Jeesuksen kärsimyksestä käyttäen apuna Torinon käärinliinaa. Samoin kuin Papyrukset kertovat -esityksessä, tekstiä on ymmärrettävistä syistä rajallisesti. Puhe on aina esityksessä tärkeintä.
Esitystä saa ladata ja käyttää ihan vapaasti omia esityksiä varten. Viimeiseen slideen olen koonnut muutamia linkkejä, joista saa runsaasti lisätietoa aiheesta.

Ajattelin pitkäperjantain alla kirjoittaa hieman verisesti 
Aiemmin olen useaan otteeseen käsitellyt Torinon käärinliinaa, jota uskovaisten keskuudessa yleisesti pidetään Jeesuksen Kristuksen käärinliinana. Kyseiseen kankaaseen on tietysti tarttunut vainajasta verta. Käärinliinan miehen lukuisista haavoista on juutalaisille ominaisesta oljyillä puhdistamisesta huolimatta vuotanut runsaasti verta vielä tunteja kuoleman jälkeen. Käärinliina on sikäli mielenkiintoinen, että kankaaseen ei ole jäänyt ainoastaan miehen kuva, vaan siihen on myös tarttunut verta, monenlaista siitepölyä (http://www.shroudstory.com/pollen.htm), erilaisten Palestiinan alueelle tyypillisten kukkien jälkiä…
Kankaan veri kuuluu veriryhmään AB (Pierluigi Baima-Bollonen tutkimus, 1998), joka on aika yleinen juutalaisten ja yemeniläisten keskuudessa mutta muuten itse asiassa harvinainen. Maailman väestöstä ainoastaan 3% kuuluu veriryhmään AB.

Lopuksi ihan muuten vaan ajatus, joka juolahti muutama viikko sitten mieleen. The Passion of the Christ -elokuvaa on usein kritisoitu siitä, että olisi liioitellut raakuudessa ja Jeesuksen kärsimyksissä. Elokuva on ehkä ylirealistinen näyttäessään Jeesuksen kidutuksen prosessia. Silti olen aina ollut sitä mieltä, ettei se liioittele oikeastaan lainkaan. Pikemminkin päinvastoin! Ja jos et usko, katso elokuva uudelleen ja muista laskea kuinka monta ruoskaniskua Jeesus saa ruoskimisen aikana. Muistaakseni sotilaat laskevat n. 50 iskua. Käärinliinan tutkimukset taas viittaavaat siihen, että iskuja olisi ollut yli 100! Niinpä ruoskimisen olisi pitänyt olla elokuvassa tuplasti pitempi. Jospa vain tutustuttaisiin faktoihin aina ensimmäisenä

Viimeisimmät Torinon käärinliinaa koskevat tutkimukset on nyt koottu kirjaksi. Kirjoittaja ihmettelee niin vahvojen käärinliinan aitoutta puoltavien tutkimusnäyttöjen vähäistä tuomista esille tiedotusvälineissä. Täytyy sanoa, että niin minäkin ihmettelen… Tässä Catholic Newsin julkaiseman artikkelin kyseisestä kirjasta, joka ei ikävä kyllä löydy (vielä) suomeksi.

Researcher claims fresh evidence of Shroud of Turin’s authenticity
A Sydney researcher claims in a new book that the mainstream media is ignoring new scientific evidence which proves that the Shroud of Turin dates from the time of Christ, not the Middle Ages as previous carbon dating suggests.
In a new book, The Shroud Story, Sydney researcher and author, Brendan Whiting, says that the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin is supported by the most recent findings, according to a Catholic Weekly report.
Previous carbon dating of the linen cloth, believed to have been the burial shroud of Jesus, suggested it was from the 14th century, but Mr Whiting’s book says the earlier testing was done on samples chemically different to the rest of the cloth – and in fact were actually remnants of invisible mending carried out in the Middles Ages.
He says this information means that there is now no scientific evidence supporting any argument against the shroud, now housed in Turin’s cathedral, being 2000 years old.
The carbon dating was carried out in three independent laboratories in 1988. The results were used by skeptics and the mainstream press to label the shroud a fake and a fraud.
“Many people were falsely led to believe that the shroud’s life-size image of a naked crucified man is a medieval forgery,” Mr Whiting said.
“But recent scientific tests proved the carbon-dating result was anomalous.
“In 2005 the corner of the cloth from which the test sample had been taken was proved [by the late Los Alamos physical chemist Raymond Rogers] to be totally different in chemical composition from the main part of the cloth.
“It was found to contain cotton threads that were woven in the edge of the original cloth during invisible-mending in the Middle Ages, so causing the dating of the shroud to be younger than its true age.”
Mr Whiting said this evidence has been ignored by the mainstream media to date.
The book lists the accumulated findings by an international group of 24 scientists that the Shroud of Turin is the surviving evidence of the crucified Christ.
Their studies of the cloth’s body-image formation concluded: “the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth from the dead cannot be rejected on scientific ground”.
Mr Whiting spent four years researching the book which will be launched by New South Wales Minister for Commerce John Della Bosca later this month.
Evoluutioteoria vai evolutionismi 26.08.06

If a theory is scientific and not ideological, then it can be discussed freely.
Yleisessä keskustelussa annetaan usein ymmärtää, että evoluutioteoria olisi kristinuskon vastainen. Lehdissä ja tiedotusvälineissä ikäänkuin halutaan aivan tietoisesti levittää kuvaa kristinuskosta jonkinlaisena tieteen vihollisena. Kyseinen mielestäni varsin vääristetty kuva kristinuskosta nähdään erityisesti evoluutiokeskustelun yhteydessä. Pinnalliset lehtikirjoitukset viestittävät aina samaa: kirkko ja kristinusko pitävät evoluutioteoriaa valheena ja hyväksyvät ainoastaan vanhan testamentin sananmukaisen tulkinnan ihmisen luomisesta. Näin ei kuitenkaan todellisuudessa ole asian laita… ei lainkaan.
Usein myydään evoluutioteorian nimellä aivan jotain muuta nimeltään evolutionismi, ja sitä juuri kristinusko oudoksuu. Vahvasti ideologinen evolutionismi sulkee pois Jumalan ja tarkastelee ihmistä luonnon osana. Tilaa sielulle ja hengelle ei tietenkään evolutionismi anna.
Evoluutioteoria on juuri sitä, teoriaa. Sen todistaminen on käytännössä valovuosien päässä, puuttuvat todistuskappaleet ja yhdeydet ovat lukuisia vieläkin. Tämän todettua, kysymys kuuluu: onko olemassa kristillinen evoluutioteoria? Annetaan puheenvuoro asiantuntevalle Wienin arkkipiispalle…

Cardinal Schönborn Proposes Evolution Debate
Calls for More Science, Less Ideology RIMINI, Italy, AUG. 25, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Christoph Schönborn is proposing an ideology-free debate on the theory of evolution, and wants to clarify the Church’s position on the topic.
The archbishop of Vienna presented his proposal Thursday to a packed auditorium at the Meeting of Friendship Among Peoples, organized by the Communion and Liberation Movement in Rimini, Italy.
At a press conference Wednesday, the cardinal, explained that the Church does not hold the position of “creationist” theories on the origin of life and man, which draw scientific consequences from biblical texts.
In fact, he added, there is “no conflict between science and religion,” but, rather, a debate “between a materialist interpretation of the results of science and a metaphysical philosophical interpretation.”
Cardinal Schönborn, who sparked a worldwide debate in 2005 with an article in the New York Times on the subject, called for clarification of the difference between the “theory of evolution” and “evolutionism,” the latter understood as an ideology, based on scientific theory.
By way of example, the cardinal mentioned Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, who saw in the publication of Charles Darwin’s “The Origin of Species,” “the scientific foundation for their Marxist materialist theory. This is evolutionism, not theory of evolution.”
The archbishop of Vienna warned against the application of this evolutionist ideology in fields such as economic neo-liberalism, or bioethical issues, where there is the risk of creating new eugenic theories.
More than a theory
Journalists asked the cardinal what Pope John Paul II meant in his address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, in Oct. 1996, when he spoke of evolution as “something more than a theory.”
Cardinal Schönborn explained that the phrase meant that “the theory, as scientific theory, has been expanded with new scientific data, but of course that phrase cannot be interpreted as an ‘Amen’ of the Catholic Church to ideological evolutionism.”
The archbishop of Vienna noted a document published by the International Theological Commission in 2004, with the approval of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, entitled “Communion and Service: The Human Person Created in the Image of God.”
He said the paper clarifies the distinction between ideology and science, and “gives an answer to those who wished to interpret John Paul II’s phrase in an ideological sense.”
“What I desire intensely is that, also in school programs, questions be explained, at the scientific level, opened by the theory of evolution, such as the famous question of the missing rings,” Cardinal Schönborn said.
The cardinal said that 150 years after Darwin’s theory, “there is no evidence in the geological strata of intermediate species that should exist, according to Darwin’s theory.”
He continued: “He himself said in his book that this is a hole in his theory and asked that they be found.
“This should be discussed in a serene manner. If a theory is scientific and not ideological, then it can be discussed freely.”
